The article examines the efficiency and environmental impact of dams in the U.S.It tells us how water dam can create energy. According to the author, dam construction is no longer a viable means to supply energy and the environmental damage they cause, such as the destruction of free-flowing streams, is well documented. It is more safety way to use energy then others and of course it is very pleasant for environment.

I know that in ancient times people always take energy from water power.For example water wheel,people use it to grind flour and they were happy,because bread is the most important dish till nowadays.

This arcticle tells us about lightining and is it possible to use it as the sorse of energy.Lightning is a form of visible electric discharge between rain clouds or between a rain cloud and the Earth.Lightining is so powerful that contains several hundred million volts.And our maximum power for electricity is 220 volts.It is one reason why it is impossable to use lightining as an energy in our everyday life.Lightning is therefore too erratic to be useful as a source of domestic electricity.

In real life, power engineers worry more about diverting lightning away from power equipment,because youn all know how electricity turn off at the period of lightining. Therefore, researchers (mostly funded by electric companies) would like to devise a method to trigger lighting and guide the discharge to harmless spots. Groups in Japan, Russia, and the U.S. are using different laser wavelengths and powers to create conductive paths between the ground and thunderclouds. Most of the work is still laboratory based, but one group in Japan reported successfully triggering two lightning strikes using their laser system.  Lightning can be very damaging. The collection systems have to beincredibly robust, which would drive up costs. Lightning is also verydangerous, making it tough on the collection system workers.

As you see it is dangerous to use lightning as the sourse of energy but maybe in future we will use it and maybe save them in the special box.

I found interesting information and scheme of how many energy people loose when they running and walking and aerobics.Energy is measured in calories and is obtained from the body stores or the food we eat.The following table contains the approximate caloric expenditure in a 30 minute period of exercise for a person weighing 68kg for various exercises and intensity of work. Walking is the major type of physical activity. For me it is the most useful way to loose wheight and energy.Ilike that when you do Aerobics you loose the same amount of energy and you pay for it but it will be more cheaper for you to run or walk everyday. The second picrure show the amounts of litres of oxygen (O2) consumed per kilometre while you walking and running.From this picture you can understand that walking is more better for you health.You can loose a lot of energy lightly.

"Global Warming"

I liked to read some intresting facts about our Earth,especially about Global Warming.I agree that we spoiled and destroyed our planet using energy from her."Many people believed it was out of human control. However, over the years, there has been scientific research to prove that global warming is caused by human activities."

It is very intrestring that people don't know that they cause Global Warming.Nowadays we live in danger every day,glasiers melting and one day we can die because we will be flood by water.I also like how she wrote about activites which cause Global Warming. It is an instruction for humanity what should we do to avoid this great problem.It is very important to protect our planet insted of pollute it or destroy.

This extract tells us how the Henry Thoreau lived in the wood for some days and why they want to do this.He thought that if you are human you must try in this life all what it gives you and if you didn't do it you didn't live.Life in Spartan conditions hlps you to understand the importans of life,because we run through it and didn't mention that we haven't got a lot of time and when we asked ourselfs "what have I done in my life?"we can't answer on this question.I like the idea in which he tells about the rails,that thounds of people laid on this roads,like Yankee or Irishman,who built this road,and nobody cares about it when they ride on this road.But when they run over a man that is walking,they suddenly stop the the cars and cry about it.What is the differences?(Henry David Thoreau,"Where I Lived, and What I Lived For?" 50 essays,New york,2007,p.426)Why we are so blind and see only what we see and never think about what could happend.

I like this essay and absolutly agree with the idea that we must take from life everything it gives to us and never behave ourselfs like animals,which live only by instincts.

BP calculator!!

My energy use is approximately:27697 kWh/yr.I think it is not so bad because i lived with three more girls.We tried to save our energy,we use save light bulb in our appartment and try to turn off the light if we don't need it.We use 6825 kWh/yr on our lighting and appliances.As for my carbon footprint is 1.8 CO2.I think it is great.I have car but i tried to use car which doesn't pollute air or less pollute it.I enjoyed to calculate my energy and i think it is very useful,because you can understand what is your participation in preservation of the Earth energy.


Response "the Use of Energy"!

The “The Use of Energy” by Wendell Berry tells us that the machine energy replaced natural human energy, which we used before the machinery ages. I liked this text because it first of all describes two methods of using energy and how this method helps us in our life. He tells us what we lose and what we found and what sometimes destroys us. I like the idea about machines which have no soul and they do everything by its own, to follow its own logic of elaboration and did it apart of human life. Of course machines help us in life and make it more pleasant and comfortable but it also cause a lot of problems, such as: pollution, waste of money and etc.

“Machines replaced the Wheel of Life as the governing cultural metaphor. Life came to be seen as a road, to be traveled as fast as possible, never to return. Or, to put it another way, the Wheel of Life became an industrial metaphor; rather than turning in place, revolving in order to dwell, it began to roll on the "highway of progress" toward an ever-receding horizon.”(Sierra Club Paperback Library, “The unsettling of America culture and Agriculture” by Wendell Berry,Chapter six “The Use of Energy” p.89/ (1977),San Francisco).It means that we are so fast in industrialization and stop enjoy the Wheel of Life we start to compete with each other and don’t mentioned how we changed too. It is very sad that life for us turned as a road, I think that life gives us the chance to be happy and enjoy our lives but we spoiled everything and take them by ourselves.

But what about using coffee as an energy booster? The main ingredient in coffee is caffeine, which acts as a central nervous system stimulant. Stimulants can give you a false feeling of energy. When we rely on stimulants for our energy, we take our bodies on a sort of roller coaster ride. Many of us wake up tired and drag ourselves to the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. But this false energy from stimulants is not a healthy choice. For me coffee is healthier than other stimulators of energy. If you drink one cup of coffee with milk for example it is not so bad and more over you energy all the day.

It is very harmful for your health to drink them, because it is bad first of all for your heart rate and of course it influence on you brain. I hate energy drinks and I don’t understand people who drink it to wake up, because as article says this caffeine contains also in tea and it is more useful for your health.

In this arcticle i want to  show not only energy from machines but also human energy.In this arcticle describe the first Human Energy Powered revolving door. This door generates energy every time it is used by someone and it is very safety and good for ecology.

"Completed last October, the Natuurcafé La Porte, located in the Driebergen-Zeist railway station in the Netherlands, is a multifunctional space incorporating a restaurant, exhibition space, and visitor center. To help meet the goal of an energy-neutral restaurant -with the use of a geothermal pump, solar collectors, a wind turbine, and other technologies -the Amsterdam-based architectural firm RAU collaborated with the door and turnstile manufacturer Boon Edam to develop the world's first Human Energy Powered (HPE) revolving door.


Located directly adjacent to the station platform, the HPE TQM door is intended not only to save energy but to actually generate energy each time it is used. Compared to the 4,600 kwh per year saved by using a revolving door (as opposed to the energy loss associated with sliding or swing doors), the energy generated with human power is roughly 10 to 30 kwh per year. "These figures put the potential of generating energy with human power a bit more into perspective," says Dirk Groot, product manager, door systems at Boon Edam.

The HPE TQM door is equipped with a special generator driven by human energy applied to the door while controlling its rotating speed. A set of supercapacitors store the generated energy as a buffer and provide a consistent supply for the low-energy LED lights in the ceiling. In case the LEDs have used up all of the stored energy, the unit will switch to the alternative mains supply of the building, ensuring the door is illuminated even when passenger flow is minimal.

LED scales inside the door indicate the amount of energy that is generated: When someone passes through the door at a slow speed, the scale will end up in the red or orange zone, while a "normal" or fast pace pushes the scale in the green zone, indicating that significant electric energy is generated. The ceiling of the door is made of safety glass and gives a clear view of another LED indicator at the control unit that shows when the illumination of the revolving door is powered by human energy or by the mains supply. To help make users aware of their contribution to the green building, "Human Powered Energy" stickers are displayed on the door, and the total amount of energy generated is accumulated and shown on a large display inside the building. Groot estimates the number of daily users at 100 people per hour, 12 hours a day.

While there are solar powered laptops that will allow a computer to be powered without an energy source, not everyone may be able to afford them. There was always the hope that there would be an affordable way for people in poorer and very remote areas to be able to benefit from the uses of a computer and there finally is because of the pedal powered laptop in Afghanistan. Pedal power laptop is a pedal powered machine that uses nothing but pedal power to operate the laptop. The system is set up so that just about anyone with two legs would be able to power the laptop and they claim that even a third grader can step up to the pedal power laptop computer and get to work with no problems. it is good way i think for everyone who want to save energy,but it is difficult everytime you want to use  a laptop you must to pedal.We are the children of the 21st century and want to do everything easely.

What energy you will choose in future?

As you see solar energy is one of good way to safe our energy.It can help not only us but also helps nature avoid attenuation.We should protect our nature and take care of it,because one day Earth will say to us "Enough" and we can die. That is why use alternative way of energy is very important today. According to the journal Scientific American solar power plants could supply 69 percent of the U.S.’s electricity and 35 percent of its total energy by 2050. This information can help us to imagen how we will use our energy in future.
